She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School of the Performing and Visual Arts in downtown Dallas. After graduation, she earned the BFA degree from Stephens College in acting and was also a student at British American Drama Academy. She worked for six years at Dallas Theatre Center as well as one year at Encore Company. She started her acting career in theaters prior to her big screen debut. Her credits for theater include "As You Like It" and the "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To the Forum" and the "Measure for Measure", the "Baby" and the "Chicago" productions, in addition to other shows. She was a standout in Michael Cristofer's HBO telefilm Gia (1998), where she starred alongside Angelina Jolie. This performance made her a favorite of audience and critics alike. Her charismatic acting talents were apparent in the sci-fi action film Frequency (2000) and with Dennis Quaid and Neil LaBute. Elizabeth Mitchell has many credits in theaters, television series, and movies. She's still an outstanding actor. In the course of filming Frequency ((2000)) the actress broke her nose.
